Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), the country’s largest public sector steelmaker and Maharatna company, has supplied the entire requirement of special grade steel for the INS Androth, commissioned to the Indian Navy on October 6, 2025.
This achievement highlights SAIL’s contribution to India’s strategic defense capabilities and the nation’s broader goal of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”
INS Androth is the second vessel in the series of Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) corvettes, following INS Arnala, which was commissioned on June 18, 2025. These vessels are designed to enhance India’s maritime defense infrastructure and strengthen its anti-submarine warfare capabilities in coastal waters.
SAIL has supplied special grade steel, including HR sheets and plates, for all eight ASW-SWC vessels being constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), including INS Arnala and INS Androth. The steel was sourced from SAIL’s plants in Bokaro, Bhilai, and Rourkela, demonstrating the company’s capacity to meet high-quality defense requirements through indigenous production.
