In a major push toward electric mobility, Relux Electric and TNGECL have entered a partnership to deploy 500 EV charging stations throughout Tamil Nadu. The framework includes identifying state-owned lands for the installations and building out a network aligned with the region’s broader green energy agenda.
The two entities will begin with a feasibility study aimed at selecting government-owned plots suited for charging stations. The collaboration is part of Tamil Nadu’s plan to grow its EV infrastructure base and reduce carbon emissions. Relux Electric’s Managing Director, Karthikeyan S., remarked that the timing of the partnership is strategic for accelerating the adoption of EVs in the state.
TNGECL will coordinate deployment with city bodies, bus depots, and other public spaces to install chargers where they will be most accessible. The state currently has about 1,300 EV charging stations, and the partnership also envisions creating dedicated EV hubs with convenient public amenities. A digital map is also under development to help users locate charging points.
This initiative reflects Tamil Nadu’s ambition to become a leading EV corridor in India. By partnering with Relux Electric, TNGECL aims to harness expertise in charging infrastructure while deploying it efficiently using state resources. The move addresses one of the key barriers to EV adoption: sparse and unevenly located charging infrastructure.

The Relux–TNGECL alliance promises to significantly boost Tamil Nadu’s EV readiness by scaling charging infrastructure. As the state works to bring in 500 new stations, complementary efforts like digital mapping, EV hubs, and strategic site selection will help ensure the network is usable, accessible, and aligned with future growth in electric mobility.
