PIB Fact Check: Mumbai Ahmedabad Bullet Train to Run on Next-Gen E10 Shinkansen Trains

The Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is on track and will be powered by Japan’s next-gen E10 Shinkansen trains. Dismissing recent misinformation, the Ministry of Railways confirmed that construction is progressing steadily, with Japan playing a key role in providing cutting-edge rail technology.
Bullet Train to Feature E10 Shinkansen Trains on Mumbai–Ahmedabad Route
Contrary to misleading claims, the Ministry of Railways has not cancelled plans for the Japanese bullet train on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad route. Instead, India will debut the E10 Shinkansen, Japan's next-generation bullet train, on the 508 km corridor. This advanced train will simultaneously launch in both India and Japan, symbolising deep technological and strategic collaboration between the two nations.
Rapid Progress on Construction and Civil Works
Work is progressing swiftly, with 310 km of viaduct already completed. Fifteen river bridges are constructed, and 4 more are nearing completion. Out of 12 planned stations, 5 are finished and 3 are close to completion. The undersea tunnel’s first 21 km section, between BKC and Thane, has also opened, marking a significant milestone.
Shinkansen Technology to Redefine Indian Rail Speed
The project adopts full-scale Japanese Shinkansen technology, known for its exceptional safety and speed. The E10 trains will provide unmatched reliability on Indian tracks, backed by Japanese expertise in high-speed rail systems. This leap positions India among the world’s few countries with high-speed rail infrastructure of this calibre.
