
Japan’s Nippon Paint Holdings, through its subsidiary NIPSEA Group, has announced that Sharad Malhotra will take over as the Managing Director of Nippon Paint India starting December 1, 2025, as per the news reports. This will be the first time an Indian has been appointed to this position.
Malhotra will replace Jon Tan, who currently heads Nippon Paint India. In his new role, Malhotra will report to Wee Siew Kim, Co-President and Group CEO of NIPSEA Group. His responsibilities will include managing operations, business direction, and growth strategies for Nippon Paint’s India unit.
Along with his new position, Malhotra will continue leading Nippon Paint’s global automotive aftermarket business, a division he has overseen since it was established. The company noted that this segment remains a significant part of its international operations.
The company described India as a key market for its future plans, highlighting factors such as a large and young population, a growing economy, and expanding consumer demand. It also mentioned that the country’s skilled workforce and infrastructure development make it an important region for the group’s long-term business outlook.
Founded in 1881 in Japan, Nippon Paint is one of Asia’s largest paint and coatings manufacturers, with operations across more than 30 countries. In India, the company is active in decorative paints, industrial coatings, and automotive refinishing, catering to both residential and commercial sectors.

Malhotra’s appointment as Managing Director will take effect from December 2025, marking a leadership transition for Nippon Paint India. He will be the first Indian to lead the company’s local operations while continuing his global responsibilities.
