The NIFTY FINANCIAL SERVICES Index (FINNIFTY) opened the September 28, 2026, session with a weak outlook at 24,975.00 and registered an intraday high of 24,995.50 soon after opening. The index later touched an intraday low of 24,668.55. 

The index is trading in the red amid broad-based selling momentum, with financial laggards heavily outnumbering gainers.

The NIFTY FINANCIAL SERVICES index opened below its previous close at the 24,975.00 level and hit an intraday high of 24,995.50. 

As the session progressed, aggressive selling pressure emerged across major financial counters, dragging the index down by over 320 points from its morning high to touch a low of 24,668.55. 

At 12:03 PM, the index was trading at 24,715.70, down by 379.15 points or 1.51% on September 28, 2026.

The market breadth of NIFTY FINANCIAL SERVICES remained extremely weak during the morning session on September 28, 2026, with 2 stocks advancing and 18 stocks declining.  

Heavy liquidation was observed across both banking and non-banking financial entities, leaving the vast majority of index constituents in the red. 

Top Gainers and Losers of NIFTY FINANCIAL SERVICES Index on September 28, 2026 

The financial services index recorded sharp downward movements across nearly all its constituents during the session as of at 12:03 PM.  

Among the gainers, LIC Housing Finance (LICHSGFIN) led the positive traction with a Last Traded Price (LTP) of 571.90, gaining 5.90 points (+1.04%). 

It was followed by HDFC Life Insurance Company (HDFCLIFE), which rose by 1.75 points (+0.33%) to an LTP of 532.75. 

Conversely, severe selling pressure was observed among the top losers, SBI Cards and Payment Services (SBICARD) dropped the sharpest in percentage terms, falling by 17.40 points (-2.85%) to an LTP of 593.80. 

Muthoot Finance (MUTHOOTFIN) also faced notable corrections, shedding 63.60 points (-2.24%) to reach an LTP of 2,771.40. 

Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company (CHOLAFIN) lost value, decreasing by 35.20 points (-2.12%) to trade at an LTP of 1,627.50. 

While Shriram Finance (SHRIRAMFIN) slid close behind, dropping by 20.90 points (-2.10%) to cross an LTP of 973.20.

Conclusion 

On Monday, September 28, 2026, the NIFTY FINANCIAL SERVICES Index plunged by 1.51% by midday, weighed down by widespread risk-off sentiment. While insurance and housing finance players like LIC Housing Finance and HDFC Life managed to cling to minor gains, heavy damage to credit card, gold loan, and diversified NBFC scripts like SBI Card and Muthoot Finance pulled the sectoral index down significantly.
