The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is advancing India’s first high-speed rail corridor with the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project. The initiative aims to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and modernise rail infrastructure. In a key development, NHSRCL has signed an agreement with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to carry out important track works for the project in Maharashtra.

Details of the Agreement

According to NHSRCL’s announcement on social media platform ‘X’, the organisation has signed a deal with Larsen & Toubro for the “design, supply, construction, testing and commissioning of track works for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project in Maharashtra.”

The scope of work includes track construction for four stations and a rolling stock depot at Thane. NHSRCL described this phase as “a key milestone in India’s first bullet train project.” The track works will cover a “157 km alignment from Mumbai to Zaroli village,” which is expected to strengthen the overall infrastructure required to support high-speed rail operations.

The collaboration with L&T, one of India’s most experienced engineering and construction firms, is likely to ensure high-quality execution while adhering to the project’s timelines.

Recent Milestones

The bullet train project has seen several critical developments recently. In early September, the Ministry of Railways completed the second 100-metre span of a steel bridge across NH-48 in Anand, Gujarat, bringing the total span to 200 metres with a weight of around 2884 metric tons.

This milestone is a part of the ongoing efforts to develop the rail corridor’s infrastructure. Additionally, work is progressing on another bridge at the Cadilla Road crossing, where a 70-metre steel bridge weighing 677 MT is being assembled on site.

Furthermore, on 7 September, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that viaduct construction in the Dahanu-Palghar area had started after completing a viaduct stretch covering 319 km. These milestones reflect the steady progress being made in constructing the bullet train’s track and supporting infrastructure, bringing India closer to realising its first high-speed rail service.
