IndiGo Launches Kolkata Purnea Flights, Marking First Commercial Service at Purnea Airport

IndiGo is set to become the first commercial airline to operate at Purnea airport in Bihar with the launch of direct flights to Kolkata starting September 15, 2025. This new route, introduced as part of the regional connectivity initiative UDAN, adds Purnea as the airline’s 94th domestic and 137th overall destination.
New Route Strengthens Regional Air Connectivity
IndiGo's latest route will see three weekly flights connecting Kolkata and Purnea, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Flight 6E 7924 will take off from Kolkata at 12:30 hrs, arriving in Purnea by 13:40 hrs. The return trip, flight 6E 7925, will leave Purnea at 14:30 hrs, reaching Kolkata at 15:40 hrs. Operated by the ATR fleet, this development marks the commercial inauguration of Purnea airport, supporting better integration of the Seemanchal region with eastern India’s financial nucleus.
Purnea Joins the IndiGo Network as Fourth Stop in Bihar
Purnea becomes IndiGo’s fourth operational base in Bihar, after Patna, Gaya and Darbhanga. This expansion underlines the airline’s commitment to enhancing accessibility in underserved areas. Positioned strategically in north-eastern Bihar, Purnea now gains faster access to broader domestic and international routes via Kolkata, one of India’s key aviation hubs.
Boost for Local Economy and Infrastructure
The inclusion of air travel infrastructure in Purnea is expected to stimulate sectors like agriculture, food processing, healthcare and education. With quicker access to metropolitan markets and services, the area stands to gain in terms of economic growth and investment opportunities.
