Indian Railways Announces 3% Discount on Unreserved Tickets Booked via RailOne App

The Railway Ministry has decided to offer a 3% discount on unreserved train tickets booked through the RailOne app using any digital payment mode.  

The discount will be available for 6 months, from January 14 to July 14, 2026, as per an official communication issued on December 30, 2025. 

Existing System and Proposed Change 

At present, passengers booking unreserved tickets on the RailOne app receive a 3% cashback only when payment is made through the R-wallet.  

The proposed change expands the benefit by allowing the discount to apply across all digital payment options instead of being limited to a single wallet. 

Communication to CRIS 

The decision was conveyed through a letter sent by the Railway Ministry to the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).  

The ministry asked CRIS to carry out the necessary changes in the software system to enable the discount for eligible bookings made through the RailOne app. 

The letter noted that the change was intended to increase the use of digital methods for booking unreserved tickets. 

Discount Structure Clarified 

Under the revised arrangement, the 3% benefit will be provided as an upfront discount at the time of ticket purchase. This differs from the existing cashback model, where the benefit is credited after the transaction is completed. 

Reports suggest that the new discount will apply only when unreserved tickets are purchased through RailOne and paid for using any recognised digital payment mode. 

R-Wallet Cashback  

The ministry also clarified that the current 3% cashback offered on payments made via R-wallet will continue.  

This means passengers using the R-wallet option on the RailOne app will remain eligible for cashback, even as the broader discount scheme is rolled out for other digital payments. So, both benefits would operate simultaneously under the updated system. 

Review Planned Mid-Way 

The Railway Ministry has asked CRIS to submit feedback on the implementation of the discount scheme in May 2026. This feedback will be reviewed while the scheme is still in operation, ahead of its scheduled end in July. 

Limited to RailOne Platform 

The ministry also stated that the discount will not be available on any other online platform used for purchasing unreserved tickets. The benefit is restricted to bookings made exclusively through the RailOne app.
