Indian Auto Makers Report Mixed September 2026 Sales; PV and CV Segments Grow, Tractors Under Pressure

Indian auto manufacturers reported a mixed set of monthly sales for September 2026. 

Passenger and commercial vehicles posted strong growth, but tractor sales faced downward pressure due to softer rural demand. Exports remained strong for several companies. 

Tractor Sales Decline 

Escorts Kubota total sales fell 17% to 15,214 units. M&M Tractor sales dropped 21% to 52,100 units, while V.S.T Tillers Tractors climbed 33% to 5,954 units. 

Mahindra and Hyundai Sales Summary 

Mahindra & Mahindra overall sales rose 15% to 1.14 lakh units, though exports fell 7%. Their passenger vehicle segment grew 14% to 64,092 units. 

Hyundai Motors India total sales grew 10.8% to 77,916 units. SML Mahindra also performed well, pushing its total volumes up 18% to hit 1,124 units. 

Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors PV 

Maruti Suzuki total sales reached 2.36 lakh units, driven by a 62% surge in utility vehicles. Passenger cars grew 24% to 91,887 units, while LCV sales climbed 18%. 

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles total sales grew 15% to 70,210 units. Domestic PV sales accounted for 68,810 units, while international sales grew 13% to 1,400 units. 

Tata CV and Ashok Leyland Growth 

Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles total sales jumped 42.4% to 51,062 units. Domestic CV sales reached 43,487 units, while their international business segment contributed 7,575 units. 

Ashok Leyland reported total sales growth of 28% to 24,049 units. Their medium and heavy commercial vehicle segment grew 37% to reach 16,188 units. 

Eicher Motors Segment Results 

Eicher Motors Royal Enfield total sales grew 8% to 1.34 lakh units. Domestic sales reached 1.21 lakh units, while export volumes grew 17% to 12,632 units. 

Eicher VECV commercial vehicle sales surged 49.6% to 11,396 units. Domestic VECV sales jumped 57.5%, while exports dropped 4.7% to 667 units. 

Bajaj Auto and TVS Performance 

Bajaj Auto total sales grew 5% to 5.38 lakh units, lagging behind projected growth. Exports jumped 32% to 2.43 lakh units, while domestic two-wheeler sales reduced by 9%. 

TVS Motor total sales jumped 24% to 6.72 lakh units. Domestic two-wheelers rose 17%, three-wheelers grew 57%, and two-wheeler EV sales more than doubled to hit 65,799 units. 

Hero MotoCorp and Niche Manufacturers 

Hero MotoCorp domestic sales rose 14% to 7.4 lakh units, despite exports falling 31%. Motorcycle sales grew 6.3% to 6.66 lakh units, while scooters surged 64.5% to 1 lakh units. 

Force Motors total sales jumped 57.1% to 4,101 units, despite a 40% export decline. Atul Auto total sales grew 17.2% to 4,104 units, beating last year's performance. 

Steel Strips Wheels Financial Data 

Steel Strips Wheels overall sales rose 52% as volumes grew 22%. Gross turnover for the manufacturer increased by 47% to ₹728 crore compared to the previous year. 

Monthly net turnover for the company climbed 52.4%. This strong growth brought the final net financial figure to ₹626 crore for the month of September. 

Conclusion 

September 2026 saw mixed results for Indian auto manufacturers. Passenger and commercial vehicle sales grew, with Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors leading the way. Tractor sales declined, while exports remained a strong area for companies like Bajaj Auto and TVS Motors.
