India's GPF Interest Rate Held Steady at 7.1% for July-September Quarter

The Ministry of Finance has kept the interest rate for the General Provident Fund (GPF) unchanged at 7.1% for the July-September 2025 quarter. This was notified by the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) on July 2, 2025. The rate will remain effective from July 1 to September 30, 2025.
Applicable to Multiple Government Funds
The 7.1% interest rate applies to a number of government-run provident funds. These include the GPF (Central Services), the Contributory Provident Fund (India), the All India Services Provident Fund, and the State Railway Provident Fund. Other defence and departmental provident funds are also covered.

Funds included in the notification:

Quarterly Review Mechanism
The interest rate for these funds is reviewed every quarter. The July-September 2025 rate has been kept the same as the previous quarter. These schemes are specific to government employees who contribute part of their salary regularly.
Subscribers receive the accumulated corpus and interest when they retire. The fund is not open to the general public and is available only to government personnel under applicable services.

Difference from PPF and EPF
The GPF rate is currently the same as the Public Provident Fund (PPF), which also offers 7.1%. However, PPF is open to all citizens with a 15-year lock-in. Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), meant for private sector employees, has a higher interest rate of 8.25% for FY 2024-25.
Conclusion
The GPF interest rate will stay at 7.1% for the July to September 2025 period. The notification confirms no change in rates across all relevant government provident fund schemes this quarter.
