As per PTI reports, India’s automobile industry recorded a sharp acceleration in overseas shipments in calendar year 2025, reflecting sustained demand across key export markets.

Industry data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) shows that exports expanded across vehicle categories, reinforcing India’s growing role as a global auto manufacturing hub.

Export Volumes Driven by Passenger and Utility Vehicles

Total automobile exports climbed to 63.25 lakh units in 2025, marking a 24.1% rise over the previous year. Passenger vehicle exports reached 8.63 lakh units, registering a 16% increase year-on-year.

Utility vehicles emerged as a key growth driver, with dispatches rising 32% to 4.27 lakh units, while passenger car shipments posted a modest 3% growth to 4.25 lakh units.

2 and 3-Wheelers Power Overall Growth

2-wheelers continued to dominate export volumes, with shipments increasing 24% to 49.4 lakh units. Motorcycle exports grew sharply by 27% to 43.02 lakh units, while scooter exports rose 8% to 6.2 lakh units.

3-wheeler exports also saw strong momentum, jumping 43% to 4.26 lakh units during the year.

Commercial Vehicles and Market Expansion

Commercial vehicle exports increased 27% to 91,759 units, supported by improving demand conditions in overseas markets.

SIAM highlighted steady traction across regions such as the Middle East, Africa and Latin America, indicating diversified geographic demand for Indian-made vehicles.

“Maruti Suzuki today contributes 46% of all passenger vehicle exports from India and there is every reason we should capture a large share of global trade,” said Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India.

Conclusion
