Grasim Industries Limited has announced that its paints plant in Kharagpur, West Bengal, commenced commercial production on 15 October 2025.
The facility will produce water-based paints, distemper, solvent-based paints, and colorants, with an installed capacity of 180 MLPA, 20 MLPA, 30 MLPA, and 6 MLPA, respectively.
Currently, the resin manufacturing block is not yet operational, and resin is being sourced from Grasim’s other plants to support solvent-based paint production.
With the Kharagpur plant operational, all six of Grasim’s greenfield decorative paint plants are now fully functional. This expansion brings the total installed capacity of decorative paints under the Birla Opus brand to 1,332 Million Litres Per Annum (MLPA), reinforcing the company’s leadership in the domestic paints market.
The Kharagpur facility is expected to cater primarily to India’s domestic market, meeting the growing demand for high-quality decorative paints. The launch also supports Grasim’s strategy of increasing production efficiency and expanding its footprint in key regions across the country.
On October 15, 2025, Grasim Industries share price (NSE: GRASIM) opened at ₹2,780.00, touching the day’s high at ₹2,808.00, as of 11:47 AM on the NSE.
