Google DeepMind Partners India to Bring AI Tools to 10,000 Schools, Boost Connectivity

Google DeepMind has announced a strategic collaboration with the Government of India to widen access to advanced artificial intelligence tools, alongside major investments in digital connectivity and skilling.
AI Access To 10,000 Schools
As part of its global national partnerships program, Google DeepMind will work with the Government of India to support national AI priorities. The initiative includes a partnership with 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs, enabling deployment of Gen-AI tools across more than 10,000 schools and reaching approximately 11 million students.
At the India AI Impact Summit, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, said, “This will broaden access to frontier AI capabilities for national priorities.” He added, “We are also partnering with 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs to bring Gen-AI assistance to over 10,000 schools and 11 million students.”
He further stated, “Google has full-stack connectivity in India, and I have never been more excited about the future we are building together.”
New Subsea Cables and AI Connectivity
Alongside the education-focused initiative, Google unveiled major digital infrastructure plans. The company will develop 3 new subsea cable routes connecting India to Singapore, South Africa and Australia. In addition, 4 strategic fibre-optic corridors will link the United States, India and multiple locations across the Southern Hemisphere.
Pichai described the move as part of the “India-America Connect Initiative”, saying it will “deliver new sub-sea cable routes to increase AI connectivity between India and the US and multiple locations across the southern hemisphere.”
The company also announced a new Google AI Professional Certificate program as part of what Pichai called its “most ambitious skilling programs” in India.
Broader Investment Commitment
The announcements come as India hosts the AI Impact Summit and underline Google’s long-term focus on the country.
The technology giant has committed $15 billion towards South Asia, signalling sustained investment in AI innovation, connectivity and digital talent development.
