Diwali 2026 brings changes to bank and stock market schedules, with a special Muhurat Trading session on November 8, 2026, and a regular trading holiday on November 10, 2026.

The festive spirit is high as Diwali 2026 approaches, bringing changes to trading activity across the BSE and NSE. Investors and traders should note the special stock market schedule during Diwali week to plan their trades accordingly. Diwali Laxmi Pujan falls on Sunday, November 8, 2026, while both exchanges will remain closed for regular trading on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, for Diwali-Balipratipada.

BSE and NSE Holiday Schedule During Diwali Week

The weekend preceding Diwali includes Saturday, November 7, 2026, when the BSE and NSE will remain closed as part of their regular weekend schedule. However, bank customers should note that November 7, 2026, is the first Saturday of the month, not a standard second- or fourth-Saturday bank holiday. Branch operations remain subject to applicable regional holidays.

On Sunday, November 8, 2026, investors can participate in the special Muhurat Trading session, a symbolic trading window conducted on Diwali to mark the beginning of the traditional accounting year, Samvat 2083. Although the date falls on a Sunday, the exchanges will open for this special session.

Muhurat Trading 2025: Date and Timings

The Muhurat Trading session will begin at 2:20 PM IST, following a pre-opening session from 2:05 PM to 2:20 PM. Continuous trading will end at 3:15 PM for securities covered by the Closing Auction Session framework and at 3:30 PM for other securities. The occasion is traditionally considered auspicious, although participation does not guarantee investment returns.

Other Market Closures During Diwali Week

Normal weekday equity trading will resume on Monday, November 9, before the exchanges close again on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, for Diwali-Balipratipada. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will follow a different schedule on November 10, 2026, remaining closed during the morning session but opening for evening trading. MCX will also conduct a special Muhurat Trading session on November 8, 2026.

Bank holidays during the Diwali period will vary by state and local observances, rather than follow a uniform nationwide festival closure. Customers should check the RBI’s location-specific holiday calendar before visiting a branch. The second and fourth Saturdays remain standard holidays for scheduled and non-scheduled banks.

Upcoming Market Holidays in 2026

After the Diwali holidays, the next regular stock market holiday will fall on Tuesday, November 24, 2026, marking Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev. The final scheduled trading holiday of 2026 will be Friday, December 25, 2026, for Christmas.

Conclusion

As the markets observe the Diwali 2026 schedule, traders and investors should plan their activities in advance. With Muhurat Trading scheduled for November 8, 2026, and the Balipratipada trading holiday on November 10, 2026, the festive period combines a special trading tradition with changes to normal market operations.
