Southern Railway to Operate 2 Special Trains During Diwali 2026; Check Routes and Timings!

Southern Railway will operate two special trains during the Diwali season on the Chennai Central-Podanur and Tambaram-Nagercoil routes.  

The additional services have been announced to manage the expected rise in passenger numbers during the festive period. Bookings will open at 8 am on October 29, 2026, according to news reports. 

Chennai Central-Podanur Train 

The special train (06023) will leave Chennai Central at 11.55 pm on November 6, 2026, and reach Podanur at 9.15 am on November 7, 2026. 

The return train (06024) is scheduled to leave Podanur at 11.30 pm on November 9, 2026, and arrive at Chennai Central at 9.35 am on November 10, 2026. 

The service will halt at Perambur, Tiruvallur, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode and Tirupur. 

Tambaram-Nagercoil Train 

The second special train (06153) will leave Tambaram at 11.55 pm on November 6, 2026. It will reach Nagercoil at 3.30 pm on November 7, 2026. 

Its return service (06154) will start from Nagercoil at 9 pm on November 9, 2026, and reach Tambaram at 11.30 am on November 10, 2026. 

The train will run through Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Chidambaram, Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Tiruchy, Dindigul, Madurai, Tirunelveli and Valliyur. 

Coach Composition and Booking 

Each train will have 22 coaches, including two AC Two-Tier, three AC Three-Tier, 11 Sleeper Class and four General Second Class coaches. The remaining two will be Luggage-cum-Brake Vans. 

Reservations are available from October 29, 2026, through the railway reservation system.

Conclusion  

Both trains will run on the announced dates in November 2026, with 22 coaches each. Advance reservations began on October 29, 2026.
