The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), led by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, has sanctioned proposals amounting to ₹2.38 lakh crore.

This decision aims to bolster the defence capabilities of the Indian Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

Enhancements for the Indian Army

The Indian Army is set to receive significant upgrades with the approval of various systems.

These include the Air Defence Tracked System, Armoured Piercing Tank Ammunition, High Capacity Radio Relay, Dhanush Gun System, and Runway Independent Aerial Surveillance System.

The Air Defence Tracked System will enhance real-time air defence control, while the High Capacity Radio Relay ensures reliable communication.

The Dhanush Gun System will improve artillery capabilities, and the Runway Independent Aerial Surveillance System will provide advanced surveillance.

The Armoured Piercing Tank Ammunition will increase the lethality of anti-tank operations.

Upgrades for the Indian Air Force

The Indian Air Force will benefit from the procurement of Medium Transport Aircraft, the S-400 Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile System, Remotely Piloted Strike Aircraft, and the overhaul of Su-30 Aero engine aggregates.

The Medium Transport Aircraft will replace the AN32 and IL76 fleets, meeting strategic airlift needs.

The S-400 system will counter long-range threats, while the Remotely Piloted Strike Aircraft will support offensive operations and intelligence activities.

The Su-30 engine overhaul will extend the aircraft's service life.

These vehicles will be utilised for coastal patrolling, reconnaissance, search and rescue missions, and logistical support.

Financial Year 2025-26 Approvals

In the financial year 2025-26, the DAC has granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 55 proposals totalling ₹6.73 lakh crore.

Additionally, capital procurement contracts worth ₹2.28 lakh crore have been signed, marking the highest figures in any financial year.

Conclusion

The Defence Acquisition Council's approval of proposals worth ₹2.38 lakh crore signifies a substantial investment in enhancing the operational capabilities of the Indian defence forces. This move is part of a broader strategy to strengthen national security and defence readiness.
