The Financial Services Institutions Bureau has completed the selection process for the next managing director and chief executive officer of Canara Bank, recommending a senior banking executive with nearly 3 decades of sector experience for the top role.

FSIB Recommendation And Selection Process

The Financial Services Institutions Bureau has recommended Brajesh Kumar Singh for appointment as managing director and chief executive officer of Canara Bank.

The bureau said it assessed candidates on the basis of their performance during the interaction process, overall professional experience and prevailing selection parameters.

The recommendation follows interviews held on December 22, during which FSIB interacted with 17 shortlisted candidates. Applications for the role were invited on October 24 as the current MD & CEO, K Satyanarayana Raju, is scheduled to retire in December.

Professional Background and Current Role

Brajesh Kumar Singh is presently an executive director at Indian Bank, a position he assumed on March 10, 2024, for a 3-year term. An agriculture graduate from Allahabad Agriculture Institute, Singh brings close to 30 years of experience in banking.

Before joining Indian Bank, he served in multiple leadership roles at Bank of Baroda, including credit officer, branch head and regional head. At Indian Bank, he has been part of key internal committees covering management oversight, IT strategy, credit approvals and vigilance matters.

With all interviews completed and the recommendation now in place, FSIB’s move sets the stage for leadership continuity at Canara Bank. The proposed appointment reflects a preference for seasoned public sector banking experience as the lender prepares for its next phase under new top management.
