
Bharti Airtel on Thursday, December 18, announced significant senior management appointments following a meeting of its board of directors. The changes are part of a planned leadership succession and were approved based on the recommendations of the company’s HR and Nomination Committee.
Shashwat Sharma has been named Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Airtel India, effective January 1, 2026. He will serve a five-year term and succeed Gopal Vittal, who will transition to the role of Executive Vice Chairman on the same date. Sharma has been closely working with Vittal over the past year to ensure a seamless leadership transition.
The board also approved the appointment of Soumen Ray, currently the Chief Financial Officer, as Group Chief Financial Officer with effect from January 1, 2026. In his new role, Ray will report to Gopal Vittal.

On December 19, Bharti Airtel shares are slightly trading higher at ₹2,097.00, up 0.24%, reaching a day high of ₹2,116.70 at 09:30 AM.
