Akasa Air has expanded its aviation financing framework by setting up a dedicated leasing entity at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), aiming to strengthen long-term aircraft funding and leasing operations, as per the PTI report.
The airline has incorporated a new entity named Akasa Air Leasing IFSC Private Limited (AALI) at GIFT City in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
The move is expected to support the carrier’s growing aircraft acquisition plans and improve access to structured financing opportunities.
According to the company, the newly established unit will play an important role in managing aircraft financing activities while improving operational flexibility and funding efficiency.
The airline also expects the platform to strengthen access to international capital markets and support long-term fleet expansion plans.
Akasa Air stated that the leasing arm is expected to gradually finance a majority of its aircraft fleet over time.
The development is also aimed at strengthening India’s domestic aircraft leasing ecosystem through onshore financing structures.
The airline currently operates a fleet of 38 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
Akasa Air has already placed a significantly larger aircraft order as part of its long-term growth strategy, with expansion focused on both domestic and international operations.
GIFT City has increasingly become a preferred location for aviation leasing and financing activities due to regulatory incentives and tax benefits offered under the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) framework.
Major Indian carriers including Air India and IndiGo have also established leasing-related entities at GIFT City.
