Airtel Payments Bank, in collaboration with NPCI Bharat BillPay, has introduced a new digital payment facility that allows electric vehicle wallet recharges through the Bharat Connect platform.
The service has been integrated into the Airtel Thanks app, enabling EV users to recharge their charging wallets conveniently without switching between multiple charging point operator applications.
The new feature allows customers to instantly top up wallets of charging point operators that are partnered with Bharat Connect. By offering a single, interoperable payment interface, the initiative removes the need for users to maintain separate apps or payment systems for different charging networks. This step is aimed at improving ease of use, enhancing security and creating a more seamless EV charging experience across India.
To use the service, customers need to log in to the Airtel Thanks app and navigate to the Pay Bills section, where the “Recharge EV” option is available. Users can then enter their registered mobile number, select the desired recharge amount and complete the transaction using Bharat Connect-enabled payment options. Once the payment is processed, the recharge amount is reflected instantly in the selected EV wallet. The facility is available nationwide to all Airtel Thanks app users.
Commenting on the launch, Ganesh Ananthanarayanan, Executive Director – Business Operations at Airtel Payments Bank, said the initiative aligns with the bank’s commitment to supporting India’s expanding EV ecosystem. By simplifying digital payment processes for EV charging, the bank aims to make EV ownership and usage more convenient for consumers.
Noopur Chaturvedi, Chief Executive Officer of NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited, noted that the addition of EV wallet recharges as a category on Bharat Connect is expected to support wider EV adoption. Interoperable and easy-to-use payment options can help reduce friction for EV users and encourage more consumers to transition to electric mobility.
The integration adds EV wallet recharges as a new category on the Bharat Connect platform, which already serves as a unified system for digital bill payments and collections across multiple services. This expansion reflects the platform’s evolving role in supporting emerging payment needs in India’s digital economy.
