Air India has expanded its premium airport infrastructure in the United States with the launch of a new Maharaja Lounge at San Francisco International Airport, highlighting the airline’s growing focus on high-value international travellers, as per news reports.

Air India Expands Premium Presence in North America

The new lounge has been opened near Gate A1 in the airport’s International Terminal and will start operations from May 23. Spread across 3,300 square feet, the facility can host up to 80 guests.

The lounge will be accessible to Air India’s first-class and business-class passengers along with eligible members of the Maharaja Club loyalty programme.

The launch comes as the airline continues upgrading customer-facing services across international routes, including airport facilities, aircraft cabins and onboard experience, as it looks to compete more aggressively in premium long-haul travel.

Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India, said the airline sees North America as a strategically important market for future growth.

According to the company, the San Francisco facility follows the recently introduced flagship lounge in Delhi and forms part of a wider international lounge expansion strategy.

Lounge Features Indian-Inspired Design Elements

The lounge interiors were designed by Hirsch Bedner Associates and incorporate Indian-themed styling through deep red and champagne shades along with design motifs linked to Air India’s branding identity.

The airline also said several decorative installations inside the lounge were created using repurposed aircraft components.

Among the premium offerings is “The Aviator’s Bar”, an aviation-themed cocktail section serving signature drinks including the “Maharaja Manhattan”, which features black pepper infusion.

Passengers will also have access to Indian and international dining options, tarmac-facing seating areas overlooking aircraft movement and a dedicated private section reserved for first-class travellers.
