Air India Plans to Launch New In-Flight Entertainment Platform in 2027

Air India is gearing up to revolutionise its in-flight experience with the introduction of a new In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) platform in 2027, as per PTI news report.
This initiative is part of the airline's strategy to enhance digital offerings for passengers while simultaneously boosting ancillary revenues.
Introduction of the Vista Digital Platform
The airline's Chief Digital and Technology Officer, Satya Ramaswamy, announced that the 'Vista Digital Platform' will be rolled out on new wide-body aircraft starting in the second half of 2027.
The platform, developed in-house, will gradually be introduced across Air India's wide-body fleet and Airbus A321 XLRs, which are narrow-body planes with a longer range.
Features and Capabilities of the New Platform
The new IFE platform aims to integrate entertainment, loyalty, commerce, and travel services for passengers. It will leverage modern software architecture, artificial intelligence, and in-flight connectivity to introduce new features and services more efficiently and at a lower cost.
One of the standout features is the patent-pending 'commerce-on-map' capability, allowing passengers to book experiences and travel services related to destinations they are flying over or planning to visit.
Personalisation and Passenger Experience
Personalisation is a key aspect of the new platform, enabling passengers to resume movies or programmes from where they left off on their next Air India flight.
This feature aims to provide continuity and a seamless experience for frequent flyers.

Aircraft Orders and Fleet Expansion
Air India Group, which includes Air India and Air India Express, has placed orders for nearly 600 aircraft, with less than 10% delivered so far.
These orders comprise both narrow and wide-body planes, with deliveries expected to continue until the middle of the next decade.
Conclusion
Air India's new IFE platform, set to launch in 2027, aims to enhance passenger experience and boost ancillary revenues. The platform will be progressively deployed across the airline's fleet, starting with new wide-body aircraft.
