The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has granted clearance to Adani Airport Holdings Ltd for its proposed ₹136-crore luxury hotel inside the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport complex, as per the news reports.

The approval follows a detailed examination by the Ministry’s Expert Appraisal Committee (Infra-2) during its August meeting.

Project Scale, Design and Facilities

As per the news reports, the upcoming hotel will span slightly over 8,000 sq m within the airport premises and will feature 240 rooms along with this there would be food-and-beverage outlets offering a combined seating capacity of 660. The land was transferred to the company under a long-term concession agreement signed with the Airports Authority of India in January 2021.

The proposed building will have a height of 23 metres, comprising 2 basement levels for parking, a ground floor and four upper floors. The total built-up area is estimated at around 34,000 sq m.

The project will rely on treated water from an on-site sewage treatment plant, which is expected to meet nearly half of the daily water requirement. Solid waste will be processed using organic-waste converters and authorised recyclers to ensure compliance with sustainability norms.

Broader Development Plan

As per the news reports, the project, which is expected to take 3 years to complete, is projected to generate around 300 direct jobs and nearly 900 indirect employment opportunities. The hotel is part of Adani Group’s larger ‘City Side Development’ strategy for Thiruvananthapuram and is intended to serve airport passengers as well as crew from large cargo vessels arriving at the Vizhinjam port operated by the group.
