Adani Group and Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer have finalised Dholera in Gujarat as the location for a proposed final assembly line (FAL) for regional aircraft, according to a PTI news report.

The development comes months after the 2 companies signed a strategic collaboration agreement for regional transport aircraft manufacturing in India. Neither company has officially commented on the reported site selection.

Collaboration Announced Earlier This Year

Adani Defence & Aerospace and Embraer signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in January 2026 to collaborate on regional transport aircraft. The plan includes establishing an assembly line in India, followed by phased localisation of manufacturing.

The project is intended to support the country's Regional Transport Aircraft programme while aligning with the Centre's Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative and the UDAN regional connectivity scheme, which has completed ten years of operations.

Orders Yet to Be Confirmed

The companies have not disclosed production timelines or aircraft order commitments linked to the proposed facility. Speaking in Brazil last week, Embraer Commercial Aviation Chief Executive Officer Arjan Meijer said setting up an assembly line would require parallel commitments from airline customers.

He added that India presents long-term opportunities but remains a complex market from a revenue perspective.

India Expansion Plans Continue

Embraer has been increasing its presence across commercial aviation, defence, business aviation, services and urban air mobility segments in India.

The company opened its New Delhi office in October last year and currently has nearly 50 aircraft operating in the country with the Indian Air Force, government agencies, business jet operators and regional carrier Star Air. Its E-Jets first entered service in India in 2005.

Conclusion

With Dholera identified as the proposed site, the partnership has progressed to the next stage. The project will now depend on commercial orders and subsequent implementation plans.
