Jio Platforms had filed 7,220 patent applications in India and overseas by June 30, 2026, its IPO prospectus shows, according to news reports.

Akash Ambani disclosed the figure at a press conference on October 15, 2026, a day after the company filed its red herring prospectus.

The report suggests that Jio was the only Indian company among the top 20 applicants in the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s 2025 Patent Cooperation Treaty rankings.

Telecom Operations and Future Plans

Jio has around 530 million customers and carries more than 60% of India's data traffic. Average monthly data consumption per customer has reached 43.7 GB. Ambani said the cost of data had dropped from ₹228 per GB to ₹7.50 per GB by FY26.

The company began rolling out 5G three years ago and has since built the largest 5G subscriber base outside China. Its next area of development is 6G. Ambani said Jio intends to introduce the technology through software upgrades rather than build an entirely new network infrastructure.

Jio is also working on AI services, including call summaries and transcription in 12 Indian languages. Its business expansion plans cover home broadband, enterprise services, and international markets. Ambani said 65% of India's bank branches were connected to Jio.

Jio Platforms IPO Details and Use of Proceeds

The IPO will open for subscription on October 21 and close on October 23, 2026. Bidding by anchor investors is scheduled for October 19, 2026.

The price band has been fixed at ₹1,065-₹1,119 per share. The issue comprises up to 27 crore fresh equity shares. At the upper price of the band, Jio Platforms could raise ₹30,213 crore, valuing the company at around ₹10.3 trillion.

Ambani said the proceeds would be used to repay debt as the company works towards a net debtfree position. The IPO comes as Jio seeks a larger share of India's digital economy, projected to reach $1.4 trillion by FY31.
