The PM SVANidhi scheme was launched in 2020 to provide financial support to street vendors. Under the scheme, collateral-free working capital loans are offered in three progressive tranches.
The total disbursement has reached over ₹17,800 crore, reflecting its wide adoption across urban and semi-urban areas. The scheme aims to enable vendors to sustain and expand their businesses through access to institutional credit.
According to official data, more than 7.55 million street vendors have benefited from the scheme. Among these, approximately 3.88 million beneficiaries are women, indicating significant participation.
In the northeastern states alone, over 259,000 loans have been disbursed. The total financial assistance in this region exceeds ₹430 crore, highlighting regional outreach.
The scheme has played a role in bringing vendors into the formal banking system for the first time. Over 5.5 million beneficiaries have been digitally onboarded under the initiative.
These users have collectively carried out more than 8.41 billion digital transactions worth nearly ₹8.96 trillion. Additionally, around ₹800 crore has been provided through cashback incentives and interest subsidies.
The scheme offers collateral-free loans of ₹15,000, ₹25,000, and ₹50,000 across successive tranches. Vendors who repay earlier loans are eligible for higher credit limits in subsequent stages.
Successful repayment also enables access to UPI-linked RuPay credit cards with limits up to ₹30,000. These features are designed to encourage repayment discipline and expand credit access over time.
