Rajasthan’s power distribution companies are targeting a sharp acceleration in rooftop solar adoption under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana this calendar year, with plans to double installations across the state, as per news reports.
Discoms Chairperson Arti Dogra said more than 142,000 rooftop solar systems have already been installed in Rajasthan, placing the state fifth nationally under the scheme.
At present, around 14,000 rooftop solar panels are being installed each month, she noted, adding that the pace is expected to increase further during the year.
She attributed rising interest to the state’s October 2025 decision to provide 150 units of free electricity per month to domestic consumers installing rooftop solar systems, which has encouraged greater participation.
Dogra said discussions are underway with banks to simplify credit access for applicants under the scheme. She urged bankers to actively support the mission and follow government-issued guidelines, particularly at the grassroots level.
“Applications should not be held up due to unnecessary documentation, guarantor checks, leases, and other procedures,” Dogra said, while directing officials to ensure smoother processing through District Level Bankers' Committee meetings.
Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, 30 banks have been integrated into the loan disbursement portal. In Rajasthan, 47% of applicants have sought loans from State Bank of India, followed by Punjab National Bank (12%), Bank of Baroda (11%) and Rajasthan Gramin Bank (8%). Loans are available for up to 90% of the project cost.
