Yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nationwide Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan (Healthy Woman, Strong Family Campaign) along with the eighth Rashtriya Poshan Maah from Dhar in Madhya Pradesh.
The initiative, jointly led by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD), is India’s largest mobilisation aimed at strengthening healthcare and nutrition services for women, adolescent girls, and children across the country.
As part of the campaign, over one lakh health camps will be established nationwide, with daily camps at government health facilities.
The MoHFW will provide preventive, promotive, and curative health services, while the MoWCD will integrate Poshan Maah activities, mobilising women and adolescent girls through anganwadi centres and offering nutrition counselling and recipe demonstrations. Awareness campaigns on anaemia prevention, balanced diets, and menstrual hygiene will ensure comprehensive healthcare support.
During his visit to Dhar, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the country’s largest PM Mitra Park in Bhainsla village, expected to create opportunities for farmers and youth. He also inaugurated the Adi Seva Parv, a programme for tribal areas in the state, and transferred financial assistance to over 15 lakh women under the Matru Vandana Yojana, reinforcing the government’s focus on women’s welfare and economic empowerment.
The campaign focuses on screening, early detection, and treatment for non-communicable diseases, anaemia, tuberculosis, and sickle cell disease, while promoting maternal, child, and adolescent health through antenatal care, immunisation, nutrition, menstrual hygiene, lifestyle, and mental health awareness.
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda urged private hospitals and healthcare stakeholders to participate in the Jan Bhagidaari Abhiyaan (People’s Participation Campaign), boosting community involvement.
