The Union Government has shared updated details on the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme in Parliament.

In a written response during Lok Sabha proceedings, the Union Agriculture Minister outlined the total funds released so far, the number of beneficiaries covered, and the process followed for identifying eligible farmer families under the scheme.

Total Disbursements Since Launch

According to the government, over ₹4.09 lakh crore has been transferred to farmer beneficiaries since the PM-KISAN scheme was introduced.

The amount has been released in 21 instalments, providing direct income support to eligible farming households across the country.

Nature of the PM-KISAN Scheme

The Agriculture Minister clarified that PM-KISAN is an entitlement-based scheme. This means that every farmer family meeting the eligibility criteria is entitled to receive benefits.

There are no state-specific targets for enrolment and no separate budget allocation for individual states under the scheme.

Role of States and Union Territories

States and Union Territories are responsible for identifying eligible beneficiaries and verifying their details.

This includes ensuring accurate land records, Aadhaar linkage with bank accounts, and completion of e-KYC.

These steps are required to enable the direct transfer of funds to beneficiaries’ accounts.

Beneficiary Coverage and Payments

Data shared in Parliament indicated that more than 1.32 crore farmers have been registered under PM-KISAN. Of these, around 1.16 crore farmers have received financial assistance under the scheme so far.

Reasons for Non-Receipt of Benefits

The government noted that over 13 lakh registered farmers have not received payments. This has been attributed to issues such as incomplete verification, missing land record linkage, or Aadhaar not being properly connected to bank accounts.

Conclusion

The government’s update highlights both the scale of disbursements under PM-KISAN and the importance of accurate beneficiary verification. Ensuring completion of required documentation remains key to the continued transfer of benefits to eligible farmers.
