The 22nd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme was released on March 13, 2026, as per reports. The transfer took place at around 5:00 pm during an event held in Guwahati, Assam.
Under the latest instalment, the government was to transfer more than ₹18,640 crore directly into the bank accounts of around 9.32 crore farmer families. Each eligible beneficiary will receive ₹2,000 through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
The number of farmers expected to receive the payment this time is slightly lower compared with the previous instalment released in November 2025. At that time, 9,35,79,869 farmers had received the benefit.
Based on the latest figures, the 22nd instalment will reach around 9.32 crore farmers. The difference between the 2 instalments is roughly 3.8 lakh beneficiaries.
Government departments periodically review the beneficiary database to remove ineligible names and correct records. During this process, payments may be withheld in cases that require verification.
Reports suggest that there are some suspected cases that may fall under the scheme’s exclusion rules. These include farmers who acquired land ownership after February 1, 2019 and cases where more than one member of a family is receiving benefits.
Payments remain on hold in such cases until verification is completed.
The PM-KISAN scheme was introduced in 2018 as a central sector programme to provide income support to landholding farmers. Eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 annually in 3 instalments of ₹2,000 each, paid every 4 months.
The funds are transferred directly to bank accounts using the DBT mechanism. Beneficiaries are required to complete Aadhaar linking, e-KYC and land record verification to remain eligible under the scheme.
After the instalment is released, beneficiaries usually receive an SMS confirmation on their registered mobile numbers. Farmers can also check their bank balance at an ATM or review a mini statement.
Another option is to visit the bank branch and update the passbook to verify whether the ₹2,000 payment has been credited.
