Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to release the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on June 20. The funds will be disbursed from Tarakeswar in West Bengal’s Hooghly district, with ₹18,880 crore being transferred directly into the bank accounts of over 9.44 crore eligible farmers across the country.
The announcement comes as part of the government’s continued push to strengthen direct benefit transfer systems and provide income support to India’s farming community. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare confirmed that over 2.18 crore women farmers will also receive benefits under this instalment.
The latest tranche of PM-KISAN will take the cumulative disbursement under the scheme to more than ₹4.46 lakh crore since its launch on February 24, 2019. The scheme remains one of the largest direct income support programmes globally.
In West Bengal alone, over 45.35 lakh farmers are expected to receive more than ₹907.21 crore. Since inception, total PM-KISAN transfers in the state have crossed ₹15,055 crore, reflecting the scheme’s wide rural reach.
Officials noted that more than one crore farmers are expected to participate virtually in the event through Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), ICAR institutes, universities, farmer producer organisations, agriculture mandis, PM Kisan Samriddhi Kendras, and cooperative institutions.
Alongside the instalment release, the Prime Minister will also unveil several agriculture-focused initiatives in West Bengal. These include the rollout of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and the Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS), aimed at expanding crop insurance coverage to nearly 1.10 crore farmers during 2026–27, covering about 30 lakh hectares.
The government has earmarked around ₹777 crore in combined Centre-state subsidies to ensure affordability for farmers.
Additionally, the Digital Agriculture Mission under AgriStack will be launched in the state, integrating services such as fertiliser distribution, Kisan Credit Cards, MSP procurement, and direct benefit transfers into a unified digital platform.
The National Mission on Natural Farming will also be expanded, with 346 clusters planned across West Bengal, covering 17,300 hectares and benefiting over 43,000 farmers.
The 23rd PM-KISAN instalment marks another major milestone in India’s direct income support framework. With ₹18,880 crore set to be transferred tomorrow, the scheme continues to play a central role in supporting rural households while being complemented by broader reforms in crop insurance, digital agriculture, and sustainable farming practices.
