The Delhi government has introduced the Pink Saheli Card to improve the city’s public transport system through digital technology. The new initiative is designed to provide free bus travel for women and transgender residents in the capital. The scheme is part of a broader push to make public transport more accessible, safer and financially beneficial for women.

Beyond convenience, the card could also deliver meaningful financial relief. Regular commuters who rely on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses could save between ₹1,200 and ₹2,400 per month, depending on how frequently they travel.

Free Bus Travel With Pink Saheli Card Could Boost Monthly Savings

For many working professionals, students and small business owners in Delhi, daily commuting forms a significant part of monthly expenses. The Pink Saheli Card removes this cost for eligible users travelling on DTC buses.

Over a year, the potential savings could reach ₹14,000 to ₹28,000, which many households could redirect toward important financial goals such as:

  • Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs)
  • Emergency savings funds
  • Health insurance premiums
  • Education or skill development

For individuals managing tight budgets, these savings can make a noticeable difference in personal financial planning.

Pink Saheli Card: One Card for Multiple Transport Systems

The Pink Saheli Card also functions as a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC). This means the same card can be used for paid travel on the Delhi Metro and the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).

By integrating multiple transport systems into one card, the initiative reduces the need for separate tickets or travel passes. Users can also benefit from digital journey records and easier tracking of travel expenses.

The card will gradually replace the existing paper-based pink ticket system, introducing a touch-free, digital mode of travel.

Types of Mobility Cards Under the Programme

The Delhi government plans to introduce three types of mobility cards:

  • Pink Card: Free bus travel for eligible women and transgender residents
  • Blue Card: For general commuters
  • Orange Card: For users opting for monthly travel passes

In the first phase, only the pink and blue cards will be rolled out, with the orange card expected to be introduced later.

Conclusion

The Pink Saheli Card represents more than just a transport pass—it is a step toward financial empowerment and mobility for women in Delhi. By eliminating bus travel costs and integrating digital payment systems, the initiative aims to make commuting more affordable, convenient and transparent, while helping women redirect their savings toward long-term financial security.
