The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is preparing for one of the largest housing lotteries of the year in Pune. The draw is expected to take place on December 16-17, 2025, subject to compliance with electoral regulations and the model code of conduct.
MHADA chairman Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil confirmed that verification of applications will conclude by December 13, 2025. The scheme has attracted significant interest from homebuyers seeking affordable housing options.
MHADA has indicated that the housing lottery draw will likely be held on December 16 or 17, 2025. The final confirmation depends on clearance under electoral regulations and the model code of conduct.
Verification of applications is scheduled to finish by December 13, 2025, after which the authority will announce the official date. MHADA has assured that the process will be transparent and fair for all applicants.
The scheme has received more than 2.15 lakh applications for 4,186 homes, reflecting the strong demand for affordable housing in Pune. Each applicant paid ₹708 as an application fee and ₹20,000 as an upfront deposit.
The large number of applications compared to the limited units highlights the housing shortage in the city. MHADA’s lottery system aims to provide equal opportunity to all eligible participants.
Applications for the lottery opened on September 11, 2025, with an initial deadline of October 31. Due to high demand, MHADA extended the deadline twice, moving the final cutoff to November 30, 2025.
The extensions allowed more applicants to complete paperwork and payments but delayed verification timelines. MHADA expects verification to conclude by December 13, ensuring readiness for the draw.
The overwhelming interest in MHADA’s lottery underscores the growing need for affordable housing in Pune. Rising property prices and rapid urbanisation have made home ownership challenging for middle and low-income households.
Government-backed initiatives like MHADA’s lottery provide a viable solution for many families. While the number of homes is limited, the scheme offers a fair and transparent chance for applicants to secure housing.
