The Delhi government has approved the eligibility framework for the Delhi Laxmi Yojana, bringing the much-awaited financial assistance scheme closer to its rollout. Scheduled to be launched on Raksha Bandhan, the initiative aims to provide ₹2,500 per month to eligible women from low-income households through direct benefit transfer.
Formerly referred to as the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, the scheme has been renamed Delhi Laxmi Yojana. The final guidelines were cleared at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who also instructed officials to ensure a smooth and transparent implementation process.
To receive the monthly financial assistance, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:
The government is expected to open registrations before the scheme is officially launched.
The Delhi Laxmi Yojana is designed to strengthen the financial position of women from economically weaker sections by providing regular monthly assistance. The government believes that improving women's financial security can have a positive impact on household welfare and encourage greater economic independence.
The scheme also fulfils one of the BJP's key promises made during the Delhi Assembly elections.
Earlier this year, the Delhi Cabinet approved the scheme and earmarked ₹5,100 crore for its implementation. A committee headed by the Chief Minister was entrusted with preparing the operational guidelines, which have now been finalised.
The government has said beneficiary verification will be carried out carefully to ensure that the financial assistance reaches only eligible applicants and the scheme is implemented efficiently.
With the eligibility norms now finalised, the Delhi Laxmi Yojana is set to begin on Raksha Bandhan, offering ₹2,500 every month to eligible women in Delhi. Those who meet the prescribed age, residency, and income criteria should watch for the official notification on the registration process and application timeline.
