Women beneficiaries under the proposed Delhi Lakshmi Yojana may receive only ₹1,000 of the promised ₹2,500 monthly financial assistance directly in their bank accounts, while the remaining ₹1,500 could be deposited into a recurring deposit (RD) account with a three-year lock-in period, according to news reports from PTI.
The proposal, aimed at encouraging long-term savings among women, is yet to receive approval from the Delhi Cabinet. Once approved and officially notified, the scheme is expected to be launched around Raksha Bandhan.
Under the proposed framework, beneficiaries would receive ₹1,000 every month for immediate use, while ₹1,500 would be automatically invested in a recurring deposit account.
After the three-year lock-in period, the accumulated amount along with the interest earned would be credited to the beneficiary's bank account.
According to news reports, this savings mechanism has been introduced to help women build a financial cushion instead of spending the entire monthly benefit.
The scheme, earlier known as the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, has now been renamed the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana.
The Delhi government has finalised the eligibility criteria, although the proposal still awaits Cabinet approval.
To qualify, applicants must:
Only one woman per household will be eligible for the scheme. If multiple women qualify, the eldest woman will receive the benefit.
Applicants will also have to submit a self-declaration confirming they have no criminal record. According to the proposed norms, women whose family members have criminal records will not be eligible.
Government employees, income tax payers, pensioners and women who own four-wheelers have also been excluded from the proposed beneficiary list.
The proposal is expected to be placed before the Delhi Cabinet and, once approved, sent to the Lieutenant Governor for final clearance before the scheme is officially notified.
The Delhi government has earmarked around ₹5,110 crore for implementing the scheme. An online application portal has also been prepared and is expected to go live after the required approvals are received.

The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana aims to provide financial support while encouraging long-term savings among eligible women. However, the proposed payment structure, including the recurring deposit feature, will come into effect only after the Cabinet and Lieutenant Governor approve the scheme. Until then, the eligibility criteria and benefit structure remain part of the government's proposal.
