Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Distributes ₹1,200 Crore in Pension Payments to 1.13 Crore Beneficiaries

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday distributed over ₹1,200 crore among 1.13 crore beneficiaries under various social security pension schemes. The funds were transferred directly to beneficiaries during a ceremony held at the chief minister’s official residence.

Impact of the Pension Hike

The monthly pension amount was recently raised from ₹400 to ₹1,100. Addressing the beneficiaries, Nitish Kumar said, "The increase became effective from June. Payments have already been made for the months of June and July. Now, payment is being made for August." 

Following this hike, there has been a notable rise in applications, with 2.2 lakh additional pensioners since June and 1.23 lakh new beneficiaries added in the past month.

Distribution Across Different Schemes

Among the schemes, Vriddhajan Pension Yojana has the largest number of beneficiaries at 51.98 lakh, followed by Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Vriddhavastha Pension Yojana with 35.38 lakh. 

Widows under Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Vidhwa Pension total 6.51 lakh, while 8.81 lakh receive Laxmibai Samajik Suraksha Pension. The specially abled include 9.78 lakh under the Bihar Nishaktata Pension Yojana and 1.10 lakh under Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Nishaktata Pension Yojana.
