Eligible beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) can now book outpatient department (OPD) appointments from home through the Ayushman Sampark helpline. The facility enables beneficiaries to schedule appointments at empanelled hospitals without waiting in long queues.

Here's how the facility works, who can use it, the health cover available under the scheme, and the latest update on its rollout in West Bengal.

How to Book an OPD Appointment Under Ayushman Bharat?

Eligible beneficiaries can book an OPD appointment by calling the Ayushman Sampark helpline at 1800-1800-4444.

After sharing the required details, beneficiaries can schedule an appointment at an empanelled hospital under the scheme before visiting the facility. This helps reduce waiting time and simplifies access to treatment.

What Is Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY?

Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) is the Central Government's flagship health assurance scheme, launched on September 23, 2018.

The scheme provides cashless and paperless health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family annually for eligible beneficiaries. It covers hospitalisation expenses, doctor consultations, diagnostic tests, medicines, surgeries, ICU treatment, implants, hospital accommodation, and food. Medical expenses incurred 3 days before hospitalisation and 15 days after discharge are also covered, while pre-existing diseases are included from the first day of enrolment.

There is no restriction on the number or age of family members covered under the scheme.

Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY Expands to West Bengal

West Bengal has become the final State/UT to adopt Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, extending the scheme's benefits to approximately 1.43 crore families, covering nearly 6 crore people in the state.

The approved beneficiary base includes:

  • 1.24 crore eligible families.

  • 15.95 lakh families of senior citizens aged 70 years and above, who are entitled to additional health coverage irrespective of socio-economic status.

  • Around 3.06 lakh families of frontline health workers, including ASHAs, Anganwadi Workers, and Helpers.

What Benefits Will Eligible Families Receive?

Eligible beneficiaries under the scheme will receive cashless and paperless health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year.

The scheme also offers nationwide portability, enabling beneficiaries to receive treatment at more than 36,000 empanelled public and private hospitals across India. This feature is particularly beneficial for migrant workers from West Bengal, allowing them to access cashless treatment outside their home state.

The Central Government's annual financial contribution towards implementing the scheme in West Bengal is expected to be around ₹1,000 crore.

Conclusion

Eligible beneficiaries under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY can now book OPD appointments from home through the Ayushman Sampark helpline by calling 1800-1800-4444, making access to healthcare more convenient.
