The Andhra Pradesh Government has transferred ₹261.59 crore to around 1.30 lakh fishermen families under the ‘Matsyakarula Sevalo’ scheme during the annual marine fishing ban period, as per news reports.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu released the funds at Thummalapenta village in SPSR Nellore district on Tuesday.

Fishing activity in the sea remains prohibited from April 15 to June 15 every year to support fish breeding along the coast. During this period, eligible fishermen families receive financial assistance of ₹20,000 each from the state government.

Direct Transfers During Fishing Ban

Reports also suggest that the amount was credited directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts. The state government said this was the second consecutive year of assistance under the scheme during the fishing ban period.

According to the government, over ₹505 crore has been disbursed to fishermen families over the last 2 years. The assistance is to support households dependent on marine fishing during the seasonal suspension of operations.

Insurance Claims and Boat Subsidy

The state government also released insurance assistance linked to accidental deaths among fishermen. During 2024-25, claims worth ₹3.15 crore were settled across 63 cases. In 2025-26, pending claims worth ₹5.65 crore covering 113 families were cleared.

The government said a diesel subsidy of ₹9 per litre continues for mechanised fishing boats. During 2026-27, subsidies worth ₹50 crore were extended to fishing vessels operating in Andhra Pradesh waters.

Harbour Development Projects

The Andhra Pradesh government said work is underway on 9 fishing harbours and 8 fish landing centres with a planned investment of ₹3,256 crore.

The state has also installed 4,550 transponders for improving communication and tracking systems for fishermen at sea.

Seaweed Cultivation Training

The government has also announced training programmes for fisherwomen and DWCRA groups in seaweed cultivation as an additional source of income.

Training support will be provided by Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute, while infrastructure support will be arranged by the Andhra Pradesh government.
