Immigration New Zealand has announced that from June 1, 2026, families of temporary visa holders will apply for visas through an upgraded Immigration Online system.

This includes partners, children, and other dependents.

Visa Categories Covered

The new system will process applications for several visa types, including:

  • Student visas and dependent child student visas
  • Work visas and partner of a worker work visa
  • Partner and child visitor visas
  • Partner of a student work and visitor visas

New applications will automatically move to the upgraded portal.

What Happens to Old Applications?

Applications already submitted through the old system will continue to be processed normally.

If you have a draft application:

  • You can finish and submit it in the old system, or
  • Start a new application in the upgraded portal.

The old system will close gradually as more visa types shift online.
