Saudi Arabia has reported the discovery of 7.8 million ounces of gold across four separate sites, becoming a considerable addition to its mineral resources, as per news reports. These explorations were conducted by Maaden, the Kingdom’s leading state-backed mining company.
Maaden's exploration has led to 7.8 million ounces of gold being added to the nation’s reserves. The Mansourah Massarah project registered the highest addition, with 30 lakh ounces discovered through targeted drilling. The Wadi Al Jaww site alone contributed roughly 38 lakh ounces in maiden Mineral Resources.
A further 16.7 lakh ounces came from Uruq 20/21 and Umm As Salam sites combined. These discoveries stemmed from extensive drilling activities across operational mines and unexplored terrains in the Arabian Shield.
The findings also include newly identified mineralised zones within the Central Arabian Gold Region. In addition to fresh discoveries, near-mine drilling extended the known resource base at the historic Mahd mine, potentially supporting a prolonged operational phase.
According to Maaden, drilling will continue through 2026 to assess the depth and reach of these mineral systems further.
The total mineral resource at Mansourah Massarah now stands at 116 million tonnes, grading 2.8 grams per tonne; equating to 10.4 million ounces of gold. An extra 4.2 million ounces were outlined from ongoing drilling sequences. Both open-pit and underground reserves are present at the site, with mineralisation confirmed to be open at depth.

In addition to gold, early-stage exploration at Jabal Shayban and Jabal Al Wakil has revealed signs of copper, nickel, and platinum group elements. These discoveries suggest the possible presence of large mineral systems, opening the potential for a diversified mining portfolio in the region. These efforts align with broader national objectives to maximise resource development.
Saudi Arabia’s 7.8 million ounce gold discovery across four key sites highlights a significant addition to its mining assets. The expansion at Mansourah Massarah and new zones such as Wadi Al Jaww reflect continued exploration success under Maaden’s initiatives.
