Google will invest $10 billion (₹88,730 crore) to build a 1-gigawatt data centre cluster in Visakhapatnam, according to The Economic Times. This is the company’s first large-scale project of this kind in India.
As per the report, the cluster will be spread across three campuses. 2 will be located in Adavivaram and Tarluvada villages in Visakhapatnam district, while another will be built in Rambilli village in Anakapalli district. The campuses are expected to be ready by July 2028.
The project will need 3 submarine cables, cable landing stations, and high-capacity metro fibre lines. These elements are planned to provide the basic network infrastructure required for operations.
As per the Economic Times, Google executives are expected to sign the agreement with Andhra Pradesh IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh in New Delhi on October 14, 2025. The state’s Investment Promotion Board, chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, will review the proposal and is likely to approve it this week.
The project goes back to December 2024, when an MoU was signed between Google and the Andhra Pradesh government. The state later proposed changes to the IT Act and Copyright Act to allow the development of data infrastructure and “data cities.” In May 2025, Google’s Asia Pacific team visited Visakhapatnam to inspect possible sites.
Google currently operates data centres across 11 countries at 29 different locations, including the US, Japan, Singapore, Ireland, and Finland. The Visakhapatnam cluster is projected to be the largest in Asia.
The upcoming cluster will also be a key part of India’s first International AI Infrastructure Hub, designed to support research and development in artificial intelligence and related technologies.
