The West Bengal government has approved recruitment for 14,454 government posts, with the recruitment process expected to be completed within six to eight months.

According to The Economic Times news report, the vacancies will cover departments including forests, fire services, prisons, home and hill affairs.

Recruitment Process to be Handled By PSC, Police Board

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari noted that the Public Service Commission (PSC) and State Police Recruitment Board would conduct examinations and complete recruitment for the newly approved vacancies.

He said the government is working towards its earlier commitment of providing one lakh government jobs in the state.

₹50,000 Higher Education Assistance

The Cabinet has also approved the Bhagini Nivedita Scheme for unmarried women pursuing higher education. The scheme, scheduled to start from January next year, will provide ₹17,000 each in the first and second years and ₹16,000 in the third year.

The total assistance over three years will amount to ₹50,000.

Police Appointments and New Emergency Number

Adhikari said appointment-related formalities for around 12,000 police posts would begin on October 11. Around 5,000 candidates are expected to receive appointment letters at a programme on the same day.

The state police's emergency response number, 112, is scheduled to be launched on October 10, coinciding with Mahalaya.

Higher Pay for Karmabandhus

The monthly remuneration of Karmabandhus, part-time sanitation workers engaged under the land and land revenue department, has been raised from ₹5,000 to ₹8,000. The revised amount will take effect from this month.

Increased Hostel Food Allowance

The Cabinet has also raised the monthly food allowance for SC and ST students living in government hostels. The allowance has increased from ₹1,800 to ₹3,300, providing an additional ₹1,500 per student each month.
