Uttar Pradesh is advancing its renewable energy infrastructure with the development of a dedicated green power transmission network under the Green Energy Corridor-II project, as per news reports.
Backed by an investment of approximately ₹5,400 crore, the initiative is designed to strengthen the transmission of clean energy across the state and support its goal of installing 22,000 MW of solar power capacity.
The Green Energy Corridor-II project is designed to evacuate solar power generated from the solar-rich Bundelkhand region and transmit it to demand centers across the state.
The proposed investment will be funded through a combination of grants, equity contribution from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), and loans from multilateral financial institutions.
According to officials, the corridor will cater to solar parks located across Bundelkhand, including Jhansi, Jalaun, and Lalitpur.
The transmission infrastructure will enable green power generated in these regions to be supplied to various parts of the state, including districts in Western Uttar Pradesh.
The state has also emerged as one of India's fastest-growing rooftop solar markets, with around 5.5 lakh rooftop solar installations and a total installed capacity of 1,844 MW.
Tata Power has announced plans to add 3 lakh new rooftop solar installations in Uttar Pradesh over the next 3 years, supported by growing demand for clean energy solutions and electric vehicle adoption.
Financial support from both the central and state governments has significantly strengthened rooftop solar adoption in Uttar Pradesh.
Subsidies of nearly ₹3,540 crore have been disbursed by the Centre, complemented by more than ₹1,200 crore in assistance from the state government.
The expanding network of rooftop solar installations now produces approximately 8.2 million units of electricity each day, reflecting the increasing contribution of distributed renewable energy systems to the state’s power mix

The ₹5,400 crore Green Energy Corridor-II project marks a significant step in Uttar Pradesh's renewable energy expansion strategy. By strengthening transmission infrastructure and supporting solar power evacuation from Bundelkhand, the project is expected to accelerate the state's progress toward its 22,000 MW solar capacity target while improving grid integration of renewable energy.
