SIP Accounts Additions Hit 6-Month High at 1.3 Million in August 2026

Monthly additions to Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) accounts rose to 1.3 million in August 2026, the highest level in six months, as per news report.
The increase came as the broader market recovered, alongside a rise in mutual fund retail activity. Net SIP account additions have increased in each of the past four months.
The number of active SIP accounts stood at 107.5 million at the end of August 2026, also marking a new high for the industry.
Contributing Accounts Cross 100 Million
The number of SIP accounts that actually made contributions during the month reached 100.2 million. This was the highest figure recorded since the mutual fund industry began disclosing the data in 2024.
Contributing SIP accounts exclude folios that paused their investments during the month. An SIP account is classified as inactive when transactions fail on three consecutive occasions.
Venkat Chalasani, Chief Executive of the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), said the number of contributing accounts crossing 100.2 million reflected investor confidence in mutual funds as a disciplined, long-term investment route.
Monthly SIP Contributions Reach ₹32,297 Crore
SIP contributions also reached a record level in August. Investors put ₹32,297 crore into mutual funds through SIPs during the month, adding to the increase in both account registrations and contributing accounts.
The rise in SIP activity comes as returns from smallcap and midcap funds have improved across time frames.
Smallcap Funds See Strong Asset Growth
Smallcap and midcap funds account for a large share of SIP inflows. An AMFI report showed that SIP-linked assets of smallcap funds recorded the fastest growth among fund categories over the 5 years ended March 2026.
The August 2026 data showed higher SIP registrations alongside increases in contributing accounts and monthly contributions. All three measures reached new or recent highs during the month.
