RBI Appoints Sudhakar Malli as Executive Director From October 1, 2026

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Sudhakar Malli as Executive Director (ED) from October 1, 2026, as per an announcement dated October 2, 2026.
Before this appointment, Malli was Chief General Manager-in-Charge of the RBI’s Department of Supervision.
Malli to Oversee Supervisory Assessment
In his new role, Malli will look after the Department of Supervision (Supervisory Assessment). The department is responsible for carrying out supervisory work involving entities regulated by the RBI.
The central bank has not announced any specific priorities or additional responsibilities for Malli as part of the appointment. His stated responsibility is the supervisory assessment function.
Around 30 Years with the RBI
Malli is a career central banker with around three decades of experience. More than 25 years of his work has been in the supervision of banks, non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and co-operative banks.
He also has around five years of supervisory experience in overseas jurisdictions. His work at the RBI has covered financial-sector supervision as well as Currency Management.
Previous Department Role
Malli’s appointment as Executive Director follows his stint as Chief General Manager-in-Charge of the Department of Supervision. He will now continue to oversee work related to the department in his new position.
His experience includes supervision across different types of financial institutions, including banks, NBFCs, and co-operative banks. The overseas assignments also form part of his supervisory experience.
Educational Qualifications
Malli holds a B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is also a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB).
The qualifications come alongside his long tenure in central banking, with much of his career spent in areas related to supervision of financial institutions.
