The Rajasthan government has revised its wheat procurement strategy for the 2026-27 rabi marketing season by increasing the procurement target and extending the purchase window under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) programme, as per news reports.
The move comes amid political debate over procurement arrangements and demands for a longer buying period.
The Food and Civil Supplies Department has raised the state's wheat procurement target from 2.35 million metric tonnes (MMT) to 2.85 MMT. It has also extended the procurement period under the MSP scheme until June 19.
According to a senior department official, “All registered farmers whose wheat had not yet been sold will now be able to sell their produce at the support price until June 19.”
The official added that the extension is intended to provide eligible farmers with additional time to market their produce.
The state has so far procured 2.59 MMT of wheat from more than 3 lakh farmers. In addition to the MSP of ₹2,585 per quintal, the government is offering a bonus of ₹150 per quintal, taking the effective procurement price to ₹2,735 per quintal.
Officials stated that this places Rajasthan among the states offering comparatively high procurement prices for wheat growers.
