On July 4, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Modified UDAN scheme, allocating ₹28,840 crore to enhance regional air connectivity as per The Economic Times news report.  

This initiative focuses on developing 100 aerodromes and improving operational support, and it seeks to bolster connectivity across India. 

Key Highlights of the Modified UDAN Scheme 

Launched on July 4, 2026, the Modified UDAN scheme introduces several key developments designed to strengthen regional aviation in India.  

₹12,000 crore has been allocated for developing 100 aerodromes by transforming existing unserved airstrips, with additional funds for Operations and Maintenance (O&M) and Viability Gap Funding (VGF).  

These measures aim to accelerate the development of aviation infrastructure and services. 

Focus on Regional Connectivity and Infrastructure 

The scheme includes developing 100 aerodromes and supporting regional airport operations with a budget of ₹2,500 crore.  

The government has planned development over 3 years, offering financial support of ₹3.06 crore per airport and ₹0.90 crore per heliport. This strategic focus ensures sustainable growth and operations of the regional aviation infrastructure. 

Development of Modern Helipads and Indigenous Aircraft 

The government has proposed building 200 modern helipads at the expense of ₹15 crore each, totaling ₹3,661 crore. In alignment with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the plan includes procuring indigenous aircraft like HAL Dhruv and Dornier, to foster growth in underserved areas.

Inauguration of Jodhpur Airport Terminal 

Alongside launching the UDAN scheme, PM Modi inaugurated a new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport, constructed at a cost of ₹480 crore.  

Spanning 23,000 sqm, the facility can handle up to 20 lakh passengers annually and is equipped with modern amenities to enhance the passenger experience.
