On August 9, 2025, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan, the Odisha government will disburse the third ₹5,000 instalment of its Subhadra Yojana to more than 1 crore eligible women, as per news reports. This welfare initiative aims to economically support women between the ages of 21 and 60 over a 5-year period.

Subhadra Yojana Continues with Third Instalment Distribution

The Subhadra Yojana, Odisha’s flagship welfare scheme for women, is set to release its third instalment of ₹5,000 on Raksha Bandhan. Beneficiaries include over 1 crore women from various districts across the state. Launched in 2024, the scheme ensures annual financial aid worth ₹50,000 over a span of 5 years through periodic instalments. The 3rd aid represents continued support and assurance to beneficiaries amid their socio-economic challenges.

Eligibility Audits and Portal Re-opening

Approximately 2 lakh beneficiaries have been deemed ineligible for further payments after receiving the first instalment. Disqualifications arose from factors like IT returns filing, vehicle ownership, or possession of over 5 acres of land. A field-level survey will be conducted post-disbursement to reassess exclusions. Meanwhile, the online portal will reopen for new registrations, allowing newly eligible individuals aged 21 to apply beginning August 9.

Reallocation for Senior Beneficiaries

Nearly 93,000 individuals who have crossed the age of 60 have been removed from the Subhadra Yojana list. Their applications have been redirected to the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities department to potentially benefit from pension and other welfare schemes. This segmentation ensures tailored support based on age and need-based criteria.

Conclusion

With the celebration-linked release of ₹5,000 under Subhadra Yojana on Raksha Bandhan, the Odisha government reinforces its commitment to empowering women financially. Fresh registration opportunities and inclusion reassessments reflect steps to ensure equitable and accurate execution of the welfare scheme.
