The Odisha Cabinet has approved a series of proposals spanning infrastructure, power, irrigation, and administrative reforms, signalling a continued push towards strengthening public service delivery and economic development.
The decisions were finalised during a Cabinet meeting chaired by the state leadership, with key updates shared by Chief Secretary Anu Garg.
One of the major approvals includes the Atal Bus Stand scheme, which carries an outlay of ₹3,400 crore.
The initiative is aimed at upgrading public transport infrastructure across the state to improve accessibility and commuter experience.
As part of this programme, 318 bus stands will be modernised with enhanced passenger facilities, helping strengthen connectivity across urban and rural areas.
The Cabinet also approved a significant power infrastructure project in Keonjhar district. The plan involves setting up a 2×500 MVA, 400/220/33 kV GIS sub-station at Basudevpur along with associated transmission systems.
The project, estimated at ₹1,647 crore, includes government equity support of ₹494.10 crore. This development is particularly important for the Joda-Barbil-Palaspanga region, which houses several energy-intensive industries and is currently facing capacity constraints at existing substations.
The Cabinet emphasised irrigation development, with priority given to the Parbati Giri Mega Lift Irrigation Scheme as part of efforts to strengthen water resource management.
Additionally, the Hadua Irrigation Project in Cuttack district is set to enhance agricultural productivity. The project includes construction of a reservoir and distribution system aimed at providing assured irrigation to over 3,600 hectares of drought-prone land across multiple blocks.
In a move to streamline workforce management, amendments have been approved to the Odisha Labour Service Rules, 2019.
The changes grant exemptions from departmental examinations for certain categories of officers appointed prior to the implementation of the rules, enabling their regularisation and eligibility for career progression.
