The Government of India has informed Parliament that a total of 10,389 km of National High-Speed Corridors have been awarded across the country. Of this, 4,809 km have been completed, while 5,580 km are currently under implementation.

The update was provided by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in a written reply submitted by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in the Lok Sabha. The government also highlighted several measures being taken to accelerate project execution and address implementation challenges.

National High-Speed Corridors Status Across India

According to the ministry, the government has established a framework for regular review of ongoing National Highway projects, including National High-Speed Corridors and Greenfield Expressways. The review process is conducted at project, state and central government levels and involves various stakeholders, including state governments.

The ministry stated that technological interventions are also being used to identify issues, delays and bottlenecks affecting project execution. Monitoring mechanisms include the Project Monitoring Group (PMG) portal for faster issue resolution.

Rajasthan Leads National High-Speed Corridor Completion

State-wise data showed that Rajasthan has recorded the highest completed length of National High-Speed Corridors. The state has completed 1,192 km out of 1,340 km awarded, making it the leading performer in terms of project completion.

Haryana follows with 615 km completed out of 839 km awarded, while Gujarat has completed 605 km out of 764 km awarded. These states account for a significant share of the completed corridor network across the country.

States With Highest High-Speed Corridor Construction Activity

Several states currently have substantial portions of awarded corridor projects under construction. Punjab has 774 km under implementation out of 923 km awarded, representing one of the highest ongoing construction lengths.

Bihar has all 589 km of its awarded corridor length under construction, while Andhra Pradesh has 585 km under implementation out of 893 km awarded. The ministry also noted that work is yet to commence on 1,022 km of approved National High-Speed Corridors nationwide.

Government Measures to Speed Up Highway Project Execution

The government stated that multiple initiatives have been introduced to expedite highway construction. These include streamlining land acquisition through the Bhoomirashi portal and GIS-based Land Acquisition Plans, along with improvements to the Parivesh portal for faster environmental and forest clearances.

The ministry has also enabled online approval of General Arrangement Drawings for Road Over Bridges and Road Under Bridges through coordination with the Railways. Additionally, a 32 km 4-lane access-controlled highway connecting Vadhavan Port with the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway and NH-48 has been sanctioned at a cost of ₹4,362.39 crore under the EPC mode, and the project has already been awarded.
